Our client, a Fortune 100 Company, is one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America.
We are hiring a key position within our client’s Advertising/Marketing organization.
This Director of Consumer Public Relations is responsible for the development, execution and measurement of all consumer-driven PR communications and Buzz Marketing (event and social/digital marketing) strategies, initiatives and tactics; drives the day-to-day activities; and ensures that metrics/results capture the goals and effectiveness of all campaigns and programs. The Director is responsible for fostering collaboration with internal stakeholders and serves as the primary interface between Safeway internal clients and external resources.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creative Development of Consumer Campaigns: Creates and activates concepts that map to business objectives while creating media coverage and driving consumer trial; Leads concept creation and execution including traditional media and social channels; Clearly establishes measurement objectives for each initiative.
- Strategic Direction & Thought Leadership: Develops annual plan that ladders up to business objectives; Identifies thought-leadership opportunities for executive team and proactively execute against corporate strategies that drive consumer awareness and brand loyalty; Needs to be educated and current on new and evolving communications channels and must have social/digital experience.
- Leader and Manager: Demonstrates a recognized ability to motivate and manage cross-functional team members; Responsible for the performance, feedback and development of PR manager.
- Collaboration across Departments: Partners closely with Corporate Public Affairs (and Division PA Directors) and Investor Relations to ensure communication and approval processes are well defined and planned; Collaborates with the Integrated Marketing teams (Brand Strategy, Acct. Management, Creative, Digital Marketing, Media) in the development of integrated communication plans; Fosters and maintains productive relationships with internal stakeholder groups: Consumer Insights, and Shopper Marketing (Planning, Division Acct. Management, Events, and Innovation teams).
- Resource Management: Oversees the annual Consumer PR budget/forecasts; Executes searches (well-networked in the industry) and leads external PR agencies; Drives the strategic direction of assignments, oversees briefings, RFPs, provides strategic and tactical project oversight, negotiates contracts, and monitors budgets.
Qualifications:
- 8 or more years experience in the Consumer Public Relations/Buzz Marketing and Consumer Communications field, as well as collaborating, directing and/or managing a team and work groups.
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or marketing required or equivalent work experience.
- Prior experience in the food and consumer products industries and/or retail sector.
-Demonstrated track record of building both corporate brand and product brand presence through innovative and
effective PR and Buzz Marketing/Social media campaigns; increase brand/product awareness and positive consumer
perceptions; achieve excellent results/ROI.
- Ability to drive the creation and execution of Consumer PR and Buzz Marketing strategies, implement seamlessly,
motivate other team members, and confidently interact with executives and other senior levels of the organization in
order to influence, persuade, gain support, input and approvals.
- Superior project management skills and strengths in managing multiple projects/deadlines; ability to set priorities and
be flexible in changing environments; goal orientation with a strong bias toward action and tangible results.
- Solid relationships and experience with major media print and broadcast networks - industry/trade, business, and
consumer outlets.
- Experience managing teams and working cross-functionally, managing external marketing partners (e.g., PR agency),
and internal stakeholders/clients. Maintains a respectful and professional attitude towards all coworkers and presents
a consistent high level of enthusiasm for Safeway and all its partners.
- Experience with streamlining PR processes to ensure innovative ideation, productivity, and effectiveness across
functional teams.
- Expertise in writing and editing PR/media targeted messages; ability to drive message consistencies across a
comprehensive set of communication vehicles/tools.
- Strong interpersonal and customer/client service skills; diplomatic, collaborative, and responsive.
- PC knowledge including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
